THE PROCESS

Commissioning a portrait can feel unfamiliar, so I’ve made the process as smooth as possible. After we discuss your ideas and choose the best reference photos, I’ll begin working on your portrait. I provide regular updates so you can see the progress and offer feedback. Before completion, you’ll review the final draft to ensure you're happy with every detail. Once approved, your portrait will be securely packaged and delivered to you.

01

Feel free to get in touch with any questions or to request a quote. I’m always happy to discuss your ideas, with no obligation to commit. If you decide to proceed, we’ll discuss the details of your portrait—such as size, style, and pose—over the phone or via email. Have a look through my gallery to see if any particular portraits catch your eye in terms of style or composition.

02

To get started, I’ll need several clear, close-up photos of the subject. This helps us choose one key image for me to work from. While photos from digital cameras are preferred for their quality, we can discuss any options you have. We’ll go through your selections together, often exchanging a few emails or calls to ensure we choose the best reference. Once the key photo is chosen, I’ll begin work on your portrait. In most cases, no deposit is required until you’ve approved the final artwork.

03

Once I feel the portrait is complete, I’ll scan it and email it to you for review. This is your chance to check the likeness and request any changes. If needed, I’ll make adjustments and send updated scans until you’re fully satisfied. Once you’re happy with the final result, you can make the payment, and I’ll ship your portrait securely to you.

HOW I WORK

I don’t usually send early-stage progress photos, as I build portraits in layers, and they may not look finished until the final stages. However, feel free to check in for updates, especially if you have a deadline. Once I’m confident in the portrait, I’ll send you a scan for review. If any adjustments are needed, I’m happy to make them. This is a collaborative process, and I want to ensure the final portrait is perfect, so don’t hesitate to request changes.

DELIVERY

Once you’ve approved your portrait, I’ll send over an invoice. For UK orders, I typically use Royal Mail’s Next Day Special Delivery, which is fully tracked and requires a signature upon receipt. I’ll provide you with the tracking number and confirm a convenient delivery date with you. Larger portraits and international orders are sent via UPS for secure delivery.
